 Chilmington Homes Ltd

- The Company

In 1984 Brenda Dean, The Managing Director embarked on Registered Nurse training in the field of Learning Disabilities in Sussex.  After qualifying in 1987 she moved to Berkshire and worked as Deputy Home Manager in a Respite Care Home for children with multiple and complex needs. Further experience as Community Nursing Sister in the County Resource Team for Challenging Behaviour in Cornwall and then Community Learning Disability Nurse in Newbury CTPLD equipped her with skills needed to achieve a Residential Care contract as an independent provider commissioned as part of the Borocourt Hospital closure.

West Berkshire Health Authority (as it was then) invested in building Chilmington House in which to cater for Service Users with complex needs.

Chilmington House opened in December 1992.  It provided Residential and Respite Care until the last respite service user was finally discharged in January 2004 as a result of changes in the National Minimum Standards.  In 1999 the organisation changed its status from Sole Trader to Limited Company.

In response to changes brought about by the Care Standards Act 2000, we re-structured as an organisation and appointed a full-time super-numery Manager.  Martine Dell took up this post in April 2004 thus allowing the Managing Director more time and resources to develop the business as well as increase Home Management hours to fulfil their obligations and responsibilities.

The home generally employs 20 staff in roles from Management to Care/Support staff.  Outside of the Home further employees provide book-keeping and administration/credit control.

The Board of Directors currently stands as Brenda Dean - Managing Director and Andrew Dean - Company Secretary.

This Board is deliberately streamlined in order to maximise finacial resources in the care and support of Service Users and to minimise the "red tape" which can inhibit the lives of those we strive to support.

Chilmington Homes Ltd is a small company which provides Residential Care and Support for people with learning and physical disabilities.  Most  Service Users have Multiple and Complex Needs, we are experienced in providing care and support to people with epilepsy; sensory impairment; communication difficulties; cerebral palsy; and those who are fed via peg.

During 2011, Chilmington Homes Ltd registered with the care quality commission to provide services in peoples' own homes.  We plan to develop this as an outreach service whereby our staff can be trained until fully competent within the residential service before they are allowed to practice unsupervised.  This we feel will enable us to continue to provide the high quality service that we are used to providing. The service is anticipated to be ready for launch in November 2011.
